Learn the cordwood timber framing skills you need to build your own shed or cabin!
What the class will cover:
  • Tree cutting safety and log processing for cordwood construction
  • Best wood types, peeling, curing of logs
  • Cordwood building designs, infill and load supporting
  • Sawdust types for insulation and mortar mix
  • Mortar mix and earthen mortars (natural mortars are a whole other workshop but Chris will touch on the Sage Mountain Center mix and will look at the soil available at PPI).
  • Building something with the material we have prepared on site

Dreaming of building your own off-grid cabin? We are very excited to bring Chris Borton, director, co-founder, and designer of Sage Mountain Center in Whitehall, Montana to PPI to teach this hands-on workshop in cordwood construction. The class will cover benefits and techniques of building with cordwood, “the other alternative building method,” for affordably creating beautiful, environmentally sustainable structures. With no prior construction experience necessary, you will learn practical skills to use immediately for your own projects by helping to build a cordwood wall on our demonstration site. Registration limited to 20 attendees. Class fee $150.
